Here is a likely scenario: you share your computer with your brother and you don’t want him to be able to access your personal folders. By using Folder Security you can password-protect, encrypt, and lock your personal folders. Thus you and you alone will have access to said folders.

Folder Security provides support for all Windows editions from Windows 98 up to Windows 8. You will have to go through a simple setup procedure to get Folder Security up and running on a supported Windows edition. This means you’ll have to download an installer, run it, and then follow the instructions a wizard will display onscreen.

On the left hand side of its interface, Folder Security lists all the folders you password protected. Of course, when you get started with the application, this panel will be blank.
One the right hand side of its interface, Folder Security presents buttons for accessing the lock and unlock folders functionality. Use them to start locking and unlocking any folders you want.

Speaking about that, locking a folder is an incredibly simple process: click Lock folders -> select the folder you want to lock -> enter a password (and optionally a password hint) -> click Lock Folder.
Unlocking a folder is an equally simple process: select the folder you want to unlock from Folder Security’s interface -> click Unlock folders -> enter the password -> click Unlock folder.

While testing Folder Security, I noticed that after clicking on “Forgot your password”, the application crashed. And after that I kept on crashing. Whenever I tried to use it, I would get this message: “A Folder Security thread was terminated by another application. Please restart Folder Security.”

Folder Security is free to use for a trial period of 30 days.

With Folder Security on your PC you have a very user friendly means of locking down and blocking access to the folders of your choosing.

Pros

The application provides support for anything from Windows 98 to Windows 8; installing the application is a simple process. The Folder Security interface is very simple. Locking and unlocking folders is a simple matter.

Cons

30-day trial; nag screen when launching and when closing the application; kept crashing after clicking on “Forgot your password.”
